Five Minute Chat offers a Free Plan as well as Monthly Commitment, Yearly Commitment, and Enterprise (Custom Cluster) plans. The plans scale based on monthly bandwidth and peak Concurrent Users (CCU). For detailed information, please see pricing.
The Free Plan costs $0.00 forever. It includes 1 GB of monthly bandwidth (suitable for up to ~25 CCU) and 25 peak CCU. This plan also provides unlimited channels, chat messages, DMs, the Discord moderator bot, message translations, support tickets, status updates, DM delivery tracking, AI support agents, text-to-speech, and advanced moderation.
CCU stands for Concurrent Users. It represents the number of users simultaneously active with the chat service. This number is calculated on a minute-by-minute basis, based on network activity.
The included bandwidth estimates for each plan are based on typical user engagement with the chat but can vary between greatly between applications. Idle connected users still count towards CCU, as they maintain an active connection and may receive messages, while not contributing meaningfully towards bandwidth use.

Yes, for the Yearly Commitment plan, there are bonus CCUs.
- Committing to 500 CCU or more adds an additional 500 CCU free of charge.
- At 1,000 CCU or more, an additional 500 CCU is added (making a total bonus of 1,000 CCU).
- For 10,000 CCU or more, an additional 4,000 CCU is added (making a total bonus of 5,000 CCU).
The Enterprise plan offers a custom, private, dedicated, and managed cluster in the region of your choice. It provides any number of cluster nodes required to meet your specific needs and has unlimited CCU and resource usage within the commissioned cluster capacity. You need to contact fiveminutes.io for Enterprise pricing.
The CCU limit on the Free Plan is a soft cap. This means temporary bursts of concurrent users (e.g., up to 27 or 30 CCU) may be accepted for short durations. However, if persistent overage occurs, new incoming connections will start to be rejected. Existing connections will not be kicked out as long as they are behaving appropriately. Fiveminutes.io does not charge for overage on the Free Plan
No, you will not be charged for any overage that occurred on the Free Plan. You will never be charged retroactively. However, it's important to choose a paid plan that aligns with your expected usage to avoid any service interruptions as you scale up.

On a subscription plan, overage is always allowed if you choose to enable it, and it is tracked separately. It is generally advised to choose a plan that corresponds fairly closely (or slightly above) your anticipated peak CCU across a day to avoid unexpected overage charges or reduced QoS, even during sudden influxes of players.
